Up for grabs is a piece of Chinese bicycle history, an original Yongjiu competition bike made for the Chinese National Team in 1990. This represents one of the first high end bikes ever made in China, and it’s got a pretty cool story to roll with it…
The joint venture between Colnago and Yongjiu started in 1989 and finished sometime in 1990. From what we know, the project was more of a purchasing act from Yongjiu where they bought the same steel and lugs from the Italian factory that Colnago was sourcing from and then used their own workers and technology to build the frames. That’s why this particular bike is a replica of the Colnago Victory.
There were some odd 200 hundred frames through the joint venture before calling it quits. Most of the frames made went to the Chinese National Team, or the Provincial cycling teams. This frame however, was one of 10 made for the 1990 Asia games in Beijing. They were never actually used in competition because the National Team weren’t satisfied with them, so they were sold privately. This one in particular has only ever had one owner.
It’s been ridden heavily since the early 90’s, and almost every component has been replaced from the original. Currently it’s setup with Shimano Sora groupset, Shimano Sora hubs laced to Sun rims, Winpista handlebars and a Specialized Phenom Expert Seat. It’s the ‘Large version’ from the small production run. Since this is a collector’s item, please e-mail us for more details and pricing: shoutout@wearefactoryfive.come – this is a great addition to any cycling stable, and a true piece of Chinese history.
